Abandoned 747 Airplane In Bangkok Suburb

Posted By: Renegade Travels | Posted in: Bangkok, Featured, Thailand, Weird

You don’t see abandoned 747 airplanes in many cities, especially ones that have been abandoned miles from the nearest airport. But that’s exactly what we saw in Bangkok today. The area surrounding the airplane used to be a beer garden, but now it’s used as a car park of sorts. Take a look at these amazing images. Click here to book a great hotel in Bangkok.

It’s possible to get into all levels of this plane, including the hold, lower deck, upper deck and cockpit. I just love exploring abandoned buildings, airplanes and other things.

Someone has left a nice piece of art on the plane.

If you go around to the back of the plane you can easily climb up into the hold area. But be careful, as there are lots of small wheels that could trip you up.

If you walk to the front of the hold area, you’ll see a ladder that goes to the lower seating deck. There is also a hatch on the floor where you can enter or leave the plane.

In the image above I’m standing in the hold area, with the lower seating deck above and the upper seating deck above that. Look how thin the outer casing of the plane is and have a think about that the next time you’re flying at 30,000 feet.

In the image above you can see the galley area and also the stairs leading to the upper deck and cockpit.

The inside of the plane is almost completely stripped, leaving just the very thin outer shell. There’s not much between you and the outside world.

The upper deck still has lots of insulation on the ceiling.

It’s not often I get to sit in the cockpit of a 747.

You may be wondering what happened to the back of the plane. They made good use of it.

The back of the plane has been converted into two sheds. Amazing.

It was a really fun experience exploring this plane.

How To Get There

The plane is around 200 meters passed Ramkhamhaeng Road Soi 101 in the Bang Kapi district of Bangkok. If you’re going there from central Bangkok, just take the BTS to Ekkamai, and get a taxi from there. Ask the driver to take you just passed Ramkhamhaeng Road Soi 101. It’s a major road, so all taxi drivers will know where it is. It should cost around 100-120 baht ($3-4) from Ekkamai BTS and take around 30 minutes, depending on traffic. If you want to see the plane on Google Street View, just search for “Thanombutra School Bang Kapi Thailand”, and then head back towards Soi 101 and you’ll see the plane. It’s clearly visible from the road.

Note: This land is private property, so if you enter you do so at your own risk. Also note that the plane has many very sharp edges, and it’s very easy to injure yourself unless you’re very careful.
